The Next Move

Every Sunday morning the men from the park would have a battle of wits until the champion prevailed. This lonely pigeon would fly overhead and watch from their feet to see who would come out on top. He studied their moves and fell in love with this tradition of friendship and banter. He knew one day when he was old and grey that he would do his best to be at that table. He would move left and right and crack a joke about the old timers’ fuzzy slippers. They would laugh and love him for his humor and cunning. He longed for the day he would be one of the boys and could sit all day with old friends and laugh about old times. This is about that step in life when time no longer matters and a game shared with friends sharpens all your memories. “If you can’t convince them, confuse them!”
